Sudden Dessaster returns for its third installment! Featuring the Sudden Death game mode, players cannot build additional Town Centers and are defeated instantly when their final Town Center is destroyed.
Cut a forest to make room for Trebuchets. Send a Siege Tower with Villagers to drop a Castle over walls. Or sacrifice every single Villager while sneaking around the map with Petards. There's no limit to the creativity available in Sudden Dessaster III.
Unified Handbook
Sudden Dessaster III is sponsored by World's Edge and follows the rules of the Unified Handbook, with the following changes:
- Seeding incorporates results from previous Sudden Dessaster events.
- Players must schedule in the tournament's Discord server, be in a voice channel while in game, and upload match results immediately after a set is completed.
- If players cannot agree on a server, then the higher seed picks the server for a set's first game.

Maps
Map ModThe tournament features 11 maps, available in the Sudden Dessaster 3 Map Pack.
The map pool will be announced at the conclusion of the map scripting competition.
Map Contest
Contest SubmissionsDeadline: .
Submission Limit: 3 maps per author.
Maps must be playable on the Sudden Death game mode and should feature one or more of the following elements:
- Multiple angles of attack (Canberra, Ring of Reeds).
- Unorthodox ways to besiege a Town Center or to access and attack the player area (the aqueduct in Wellsprings, the new Gunpowder Kegs).
- Allow aggression and defense with only one Town Center.
We specifically are looking for these styles of maps to include:
- A multiple Town Center start.
- A close-quarters Socotra-like map.
- A map with an unusual or surprising way into the enemy base, such as Wellsprings.
There is a slight preference for maps with random placement. Maps that encourage Feudal Age water play will be penalized in judging. But maps are free to implement a unique way of sniping a Town Center from water without heavy Feudal Age water play.
Judging: The judges will make a shortlist of maps from submissions. This list will not be based on formal points or criteria, but on subjective opinions on what judges feel is best for the tournament and what fits the rules and theme of the competition. Judges will then rank the maps on this list.
Prize: The top four maps receive $75. A scripter can only receive a prize once. If multiple maps are from the same scripter, the prize moves down the line. Tournament hosts may select 1–4 maps from the winners to use in the tournament.
Drafts
Each set begins with a map draft followed by a civilization draft. The higher seed chooses to be the host or the guest for both drafts.
Game 1 is played on the final map in the draft. Each subsequent map is chosen by the loser of the previous game, who selects any unplayed map from the draft.
Players may pick any of their drafted civilizations for each game, without repeating a civilization during a set.
Map drafts will be released at the conclusion of the map scripting competition.

Player Rules
Scheduling: Players are placed in a private Discord channel and must use this channel to schedule. Scheduling must begin as soon as possible once a matchup is determined. If players are unable to schedule during the set timeframe, they must notify administrators immediately to work for a solution to play their games.
Voice Channel: All players must join a voice channel in the tournament Discord server while playing their set.
Uploading Match Results: Directly upon the conclusion of each set, the winner must post the score, map draft, and recorded games in the set's scheduling channel.
Replay PackerDrops & Restores: If a game drops, follow these steps:
- If a fair restore file is available, use that to finish the game.
- If no fair restore file is available, an administrator will attempt to create a restore file from a recorded game.
- If no fair restore file can be created, administrators will decide whether to restart the game or to award an administrative win.
In the event of a disconnect, players must leave the game without looking at the map and may not watch back a recorded game before attempting to restore. Remember to set the spectator delay to 2 minutes (a restore defaults to 10:00).
Lobby Setup
Server: Players should find a server that is fair for everyone. If players cannot agree on a server, then the higher seed picks the server for Game 1, and the player picking the map picks the server for the remaining games.
